Rally Estonia 2023
The Rally Estonia took place in the landscapes of Tartu and Otepää. The weather was unpredictable, but fortunately, there were no major rains. When the sun was shining, it was occasionally even hot, but when clouds came in front of the sun, the weather turned chilly. The championship leader, Kalle Rovanperä, had to plow the road on Friday, but despite that, he maintained a competitive pace. When the starting position improved on Saturday, he unleashed unstoppable performance, setting one fastest time after another. His victory in the Power Stage secured full points haul. Thierry Neuville finished second ahead of Esapekka Lappi. Teemu Suninen completed the top class, finishing fifth with Hyundai. In the lower classes, Emil Lindholm, Sami Pajari, Roope Korhonen, and Toni Herranen performed excellently.
Adding a unique flavor to the rally trip, we were traveling in an electric car, the Tesla Model 3 SR+, with a small battery. Estonia's charging network isn't very extensive, but the Tartu Circle K fast charging station proved sufficient for this trip. The battery always charged to full at Lõunakeskus while we were grabbing fast food. One evening, we considered having pizza, but we couldn't find a pizzeria in the shopping center fast enough before the battery reached full charge. Throughout the journey, we never had to wait for the car to charge, as it was always ready before the passengers. We slept in the car and utilized Tesla's camp mode. The air conditioning could stay on during the night, providing comfortable sleeping conditions. Camp mode consumed about 20% of the battery overnight. Sleeping on an air mattress was comfortable. The overnight parking spots in Estonia were peaceful, with no disruptive noise anywhere. In Jyväskylä, I avoid parking overnight as I usually prefer a good night's sleep. Parking at the Rally Estonia was free.Error
